The Center conducts PK12 literacy initiatives such as the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum and Early Literacy Programs in partnership with school districts and county offices across California. Our goal is to support and disseminate literacy research and best practices, while preparing all of California’s students to be fully literate.

This innovative curriculum--born at the CSU--has changed how English teachers prepare high school students for college. Using rhetorical inquiry to encourage critical thinking, students learn strategies that help them thrive in college.
With the state's increased emphasis on the importance of early literacy and the introduction of universal tk for four year olds and up, the Center is focused on disseminating information on integrating the new PK-3 literacy standards.
