Policy Initiatives

CAR/W is called upon to support statewide efforts related to literacy. For example, the center’s co-directors served as two of three primary authors of the 2015 ELA/ELD Framework and also authored an accompanying Executive Summary  of the framework.

Key CAR/W personnel served on the SB488 CTC Literacy Workgroup to help draft and revise the new literacy standards.

California Literacy Standards

The CAR/W Co-Directors were part of the California Teaching Commission's workgroup to draft and revise the state's new literacy standards in 2022, including for the PK-3 Education Specialist Credential.
